Grundlage war das Schmettau'sche Kartenwerk, entstanden zwischen 1767 und 1787. Das Kartenwerk umfasst das Gebiet Preußens östlich der Weser auf insgesamt 270 Blättern. Davon sind alle Karten des Territoriums Brandenburg digital ausgewertet worden. Die Kartierung erfolgte im Maßstab 1:50000 ohne trigonometrische Grundlage.
